Taiwan monitors China Coast Guard ships off east coast

TAIPEI — Taiwan’s coast guard said on Thursday it had deployed vessels to “monitor” Chinese ships operating in waters to the east of the self-ruling democratic island. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and also asserts jurisdiction over the waters around the island, which Taipei rejects.
