Xi meets Kissinger: Recalling Henry Kissinger’s role in normalising US-China ties

China’s President Xi Jinping met veteran US diplomat Henry Kissinger in Beijing on Wednesday (July 19), calling him an “old friend” and discussing with him the ongoing low period of US-China ties. In the 1970s, Kissinger, now 100, served as the US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald R Ford. Among other things, he played a crucial role in the normalisation of ties between the US and China. Kissinger has visited China regularly since leaving office.
