The beaches of Normandy where Allied troops launched the D-Day invasion during World War II have been added to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Heritage List, alongside Greece’s Mount Olympus and several other culturally and environmentally significant sites. The designations were approved Sunday during a meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, where delegates are reviewing dozens of nominations from around the world.
