April saw the highest number of closure orders slapped onto businesses since 2019, with 21 businesses hit over the month for breaches of food safety legislation. The closure orders were officially issued by the HSE over the alleged contravention of food safety legislation laid out by the FSAI Act, 1998 and the European Union (Official Controls in Relation to Food Legislation) Regulations of 2020. The orders were issued in April for a range of alleged breaches related to substandard food safety and hygiene, including the presence of rodent droppings found near a food preparation area.
