Defence chiefs have warned that “anxiety” over Australia’s strategic circumstances will be a permanent feature of competition in the Indo-Pacific and admitted the military needs to overcome workforce shortages, low preparedness and overhaul weapons procurement to successfully deter Chinese threats to peace.
