Alibaba’s (NYSE:BABA) chip design unit launched a RISC-V-based controller chip for server storage, The South China Morning Post reported. RISC-V, pronounced as “risk five,” is an open-source instruction set architecture which can be used to develop custom processors for several applications, including artificial intelligence, or AI. At its annual Apsara cloud computing conference on Tuesday, Alibaba unveiled Zhenyue 510, a controller integrated circuit, or IC, for enterprise solid-state drives, or SSDs.
