The Chinese army fired projectiles towards the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, AFP journalists noted, shortly after the start of major military exercises all around the island claimed by Beijing. In Pingtan, a Chinese island located near the ongoing maneuvers, reporters saw several of these projectiles, fired at around 1:13 p.m. local time, soar through the sky towards the sea, followed by plumes of white smoke. According to the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense, it would be “multiple” ballistic missiles.
