China on Thursday said it conducted “precision missile strikes” in the Taiwan Strait hours after the China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) began its "largest-ever" military exercises including live firing on the waters and in the airspace surrounding the island of Taiwan. The drills come a day after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan amid threats by China over the decision. Reacting to the development, Taiwan officials said the drills violate United Nations rules, invade Taiwan's territorial space and are a direct challenge to free air and sea navigation.
