For two decades, the statue has stood there in memory of the students who lost their lives during the Tiananmen Square massacre, June 4, 1989 . The students demonstrated for freedom of expression. Now the University of Hong Kong has ordered the famous statue “Pillar of Shame” removed by 5pm on Wednesday 13 October. It appeared in a letter from the university on Friday, writes The Guardian.
