Researchers are tracking a campaign that is both promoting the Chinese government and encouraging real-world protests surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. On Wednesday, Mandiant Threat Intelligence said the pro-People’s Republic of China (PRC) network was first discovered in June 2019. At the time, the network composed of a web of inauthentic accounts on social media platforms — including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube — used to slam pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Fake propaganda networks are nothing new. Companies including Facebook are constantly detecting and wiping them out, but others take its place as soon as one vanishes....
