McDonnell Douglas was one of the world’s largest commercial and military aircraft manufacturers until 1997, when it merged with Boeing. After the merger, Boeing’s commercial aircraft types took priority, and McDonnell Douglas’ were phased out, although the MD-95 survived for a while as the Boeing 717 regional airliner.
