On 20 February, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the issue of whether the American President had the power to impose tariffs on foreign goods under the country’s International Emergency Economic Powers (IEEPA) Act of 1977. Unlike his predecessors, President Donald Trump had invoked this Act to create the entire structure of wilful imposition of tariffs on foreign imports since 5 April. In light of this determination, Trump invoked the IEEPA to impose tariffs.
