Opposition Party Leader Claims Victory in St. Vincent After Historic 24-Year Incumbent Ousted

In a historical shift of power, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is set for a change in leadership after 24 years with the defeat of long-standing Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves. Godwin Friday from the New Democratic Party emerged victorious over Gonsalves of the Unity Labor Party following the latest election results. Gonsalves, who had been in office since March 2001, was known for his support of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
