Chinese military base not welcome in the Pacific: Fiji PM

Fiji's prime minister says a Chinese military base in the Pacific would not be welcomed by the region as he floated signing a treaty with Australia to put bilateral relations on a firmer footing unaffected by "political whims" of changes in government. Addressing the National Press Club on Wednesday, Sitiveni Rabuka also declared support for Fijians to be recruited into the Australian military, saying it would provide much-needed employment opportunities and help set up ex-service people for comfortable retirements.
