Beijing open to talks, raising hopes of trade war thaw

Tokyo | China said it is assessing the possibility of trade talks with the Trump administration, indicating a softening of Beijing's position as both sides look for a way out of their tariff war that has roiled global markets and raised fears of lower growth. The commerce ministry said on Friday it noted senior US officials were repeatedly expressing a willingness to talk to Beijing about lowering tariffs.
