Australian shares are set to open higher though a sustainable rebound is not expected. Shares were lower in New York as nerves continue to fray with investors waiting for more clarity on President Donald Trump's tariff plans. The S & P 500 fell near 2 per cent in early trading before buyers stepped forward; it was 0.5 per cent lower near 5660 at 1.20pm. The benchmark is heading towards its worst quarter since 2022.
