Cornwall miners call off plan to strike over pay

Hundreds of China clay miners have called off planned strike action after receiving a better pay rise offer. More than 400 staff at Imerys, mostly based at in the Clay Country in the St Austell area, had voted to take industrial action after a pay deal with the French-owned minerals giant failed. Trade union Unite said that the failed talks followed an agreement in 2022 at Imerys when the workforce had agreed to an initial six per cent pay rise from January 2023.
