Large wargames between the USA, Australia and eleven partner nations kicked off on July 21, the largest ever in the history of Exercise Talisman Sabre. It was little surprise that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was not invited to participate, but China nonetheless played a central role in the exercise.
