Samsung Electronics has appointed Jay Y. Lee as the executive chairman to lead the world's largest smartphone and memory chipmaker, two months after the heir received a presidential pardon that erased the 54-year-old's criminal record. Lee, who has been vice chairman of Samsung since 2012, had been expected to take over the tech giant after the death of his father Kun-hee Lee, the late Samsung Group chairman, in 2020.
