UTStarcom, China Unicom work to develop 5G transport network solution

Telecom infrastructure provider UTStarcom announced progress with China Unicom Research Institute in their cooperative development and field testing of a disaggregated networking solution for 5G transport networks. China Unicom Research Institute is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Unicom, one of the major mobile carriers in China. The partners noted that the disaggregation of hardware and software in telecommunication networks is drawing serious interest in the telecom industry, especially for 5G transport networks.
