Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) has reported gaining control of 42 websites that the Chinese hacker group Nickel has used to launch attacks on organizations in the United States and other countries. The attacks, according to Microsoft, were carried out to collect intelligence from government agencies, research centers and human rights organizations. A District Court in Virginia on December 2 granted the company permission to take control of compromised sites, which were then redirected to Microsoft’s servers.
