Facebook owner Meta Platforms said on Wednesday it removed accounts used by an influencer operation from China that was promoting claims by a bogus “Swiss biologist” that the United States was interfering in the search for the origins of COVID-19. Meta said in a report that the social media campaign was “largely unsuccessful” and targeted an English-speaking audience in the United States and Britain and a Chinese audience in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Tibet.
