Hong Kong universities that were the breeding ground for the territory’s pro-democracy movement are now making students learn about Beijing’s security law. Three universities including Polytechnic, which was the scene of violent clashes between protesters and police in 2019, appear to have been brought into line by Beijing. Daniel Shek, associate vice- president of Polytechnic University, told the South China Morning Post that first-year students will have to learn about the national security law and the history of China’s past “humiliations” by Western powers.
